Variety

    is the

Spice

of Life

Variety has always been a goal here at Gingerbird Farms. However, with variety comes exploring new things. As much as we like exploring the unknown, which you may like to do as well, it can come with some serious repercussions. That's where we come in.

But who are we, exactly? You wouldn't want to take advice from a stranger, let alone someone you have never met in person. Lucky for you, we don't want to be strangers! Here is a little more about us:

Our humble homestead consists of ten acres located in the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho area. If you don't know where that is, it's about two hours south of Canada, in the northern tip of Idaho. If you don't know where that is, here's a map. If you don't know where Canada is, we're sorry, but we can't help you.

We started our little farm with fourteen tiny chicks that lived in a box in our garage until they were big enough for a chicken coop. Later that year, we had some friends of ours bring over their cow, Strawberry, and her little calf, who we decided to name Shortcake. After falling in love with Strawberry and Shorty, we decided to get a few cows of our own. However, they weren't gentle giants like our girl Strawberry. They were three young, rowdy steers with big appetites and bigger muscles. We were only familiar with dairy cows, and that had been decades before. Fortunately for us, they got fat and gentled down.

Now we live content lives on our farm. Although it may have been a train wreck from the beginning, it was worth it in the end. Our farm has been one of the best things to happen in our lives, and we wouldn't trade it for the world. Hopefully, through our blog, you will feel inspired to start your own farm,

and learn from our experiences along the way so you don't have to go through as much trouble as we did.
